Garruda 2 - 15 points - in “glass paperweights of the bergstrom mahler museum” a book with 1200 weights illustrated in with full color there’s valsteet lamber paper weight from the 1920s - full name who gave this to the museum and who is it in memory of?
It’s all hands on deck time at Trivia and I may need your help. We are waiting for the final scores from the 373 questions asked so far, but we are in a dead heat with another team for the victory. We have 3-5 questions left called Garrudas. All but the last one with be worth 15-25 points (a standard question is 5) and the final question (the Super Garruda) will be worth anywhere from 25-100 points.
I’ve seen very few garrudas answered - I actually got one a couple of years ago (the question was, what was Jim Morrison’s passport number) and I’ve never seen someone land a Super Garruda.
That being said, we’ve called an ancient woman artist and called people across the country to try and answer these questions. So, I will be posting them to tumblr between 11 and 12 when the contest ends.
Have been somewhat uninspired this weekend during the contest. However, I think we just had our winner. We are having Disney Hour and someone called in, answered the question and listed their team name as The Little Spermaid. That’s funny stuff.
After question #250 we are tied for first place. Pending a dispute over record keeping we might be in first place by one. Of course, we are already on to question 270. 13 more minutes in Paula Deen hour, and 15:22 hours in the contest.
You can… it’s a little late this year, but the contest streams online http://blogs.lawrence.edu/trivia/ - link is on the right. As long as you have an phone that lets you call the US without obscene charges. Although you latency might be a little too much for the three minute time frames.
Actually @Terminalsingles was correct based on the way the question was asked. The crossword was out on election day and the answer could have been “Bob Dole” or Clinton. So technically there were two answers to 41 down of Bra or Ira. The answer ended up actually being IRA, but it was written to have two answers.
Edit - @sarcasticrylie - Interesting fact, how’s it feel to be a clone?
I don’t tend to dwell on the compliments I’ve received to be honest. Twitter and Tumblr have been very nice to me. I was kind of partial to the various things Pam at Retro Renovation said this week in regard to my work blog. So if you want to see what she wrote, it’s at this link http://retrorenovation.com/2011/01/26/how-social-media-is-saving-pink-bathrooms/ she also sent a very nice email to my wife.
Whats been the one comment, idea or thought that most inspired you to do something different with your life?
"If we do not find anything pleasant, at least we shall find something new." - Voltaire Candide
There have been a lot of books or ideas that have deeply impacted my life. However, this is the one that’s provided the most influence. While the book is a scathing indictment of the 1750’s, I think there’s value in the idea of assessing your situation and trying to make the best of it. It isn’t the blind acceptance of Candide, but it’s more of a focus on saying “screw it” I can make this happen here, right now.
I just got more sleep then I’ve ever had at Trivia. Since we are playing with a small squad, we determined it made more sense for me to sleep early and be functional for the Saturday day shift. So I slept poorly from 11:30 to 2:30 with the screaming and yelling in the other room, then a little more soundly from 4:00 to 7:00. I’m hoping to take a brief nap late this afternoon. So I’m a little lively right now, but we’ll see how it goes. Fiona hasn’t slept yet which means she’s been up for a little over 25 hours now. She’s still cute as a button—a button that has been through the dryer a few too many times.
So it is a call-in contest, so one of the tricks teams use (but aren’t supposed to) is calling in to jam the phone lines and prevent teams from getting in to answer the question. However, your team is only allowed to answer the question correctly once. If your team gets announced twice for one question your score for it gets thrown out. So this leads to teams calling in with accurate answers but with funny fake team names.
For example, last year there were tons of jam teams with names based on the 2 Girls 1 Cup theme. I called in with 2 Robins, 1 Batcup. Another one could be something like 2 Trumps, 1 Wig.
So, if you want to play, how about you come up with some suggestions that fit in with this theme. I have 40+ hours that require entertainment, so give me some good ones.
If you are curious as to why I’m tweeting and tumbling at odd hours, this will explain it. It’s not a TweetDeck issue, it’s trivia.
So I just made it to Appleton, WI after a six hour white knuckle drive through four inches of snow. I had to pull the car over on the highway on several occasions just to scrape the accumulated ice of the windshield wipers.
Why would I do something stupid? The Great Midwest Trivia Contest! For the last few years, my wife has dragged me out to a friends house for 40+ hours of trivia with a question asked every three minutes. My team has won 10 straight years, but we are planning to lose this year. I’ll explain more on that later. Either way, I’ll be tweeting and tumbling about it from a state most often disassociated from reality due to lack of sleep. Either way it’s fun. If you want to read some local journalism about the contest and our team you can read it here.
I’ll be talking about trivia all weekend, so please don’t hate me. Also, we might have a few games to play. I’ll start with one in just a little bit.
Also, The Wife will be Tumbling as well over at www.flyoverfi.tumblr.com if you want to give her a look. Although she hasn’t started yet.
So, I clearly can’t find a setting regarding this. Is there a way to allow me to page through my dashboard rather than a continuous scroll of posts? I don’t get to check tumblr as often and after I load a bunch of yer crap my system gets really sad and slow. It’d be much nice to have a set number of posts per page and just keep going back.
You are totally getting a nose in the belly button hug from me in Chicago.
That belly button better be lint free! And make sure your nose is clean. I’ll be able to see all your boogies.
Whenever I see a post about #CHSH I get so giddy! I can’t wait to meet you two goofballs plus the rest of the people going. I wish it was NOW!
I use one of those velcro drain cleaner thingies on my button every morning and I’ll shave my nose hair so it’ll be booger free. Also, I’m only 6’ even so it won’t really be a nose in the belly button hug.
Sue, I can’t wait to meet you crazy people too! Although TCFU and the ungodly amount of beer I drank kind of put me through the ringer.
So thanks to those of you who read my work blog (and Shira and Juarez for commenting) this morning on pink bathrooms and Flickr, I really appreciate it. The article in the Minneapolis Star Tribune just came out online and the best part is the title Bathrooms still in the pink - this cracks me up because the wife and I have already been making “in the stink” jokes. Also, you can see a picture of me and the super cute and mysterious FlyoverFi
I wrote a work blog about how Flickr forced me to clean my bathroom. It’s not as compelling as my Be the Match piece, but I think it’s mildly entertaining for the 85 seconds it takes to read. So if you are really bored, here’s the link.
Fiona and I typically throw three parties a year: her birthday, Halloween and New Year’s (although we didn’t do NYE because of England this year).
The next morning during cleanup, I’ll find at least six or seven half finished beers. These are all from me. It’s because I start drinking a beer, set it down and lose it. Then open another one and repeat the process. It’s rather annoying and wasteful and I don’t mean to do it.
When we go to a bar, I am ALWAYS a member of the clean glass club. So those extra few beers I waste, were consumed and I really feel it today. I drank a little too much last night. However, it was worth it. I had such a good time and the last time I felt that much love from strangers was after someone slipped me E right before I went to see Elmo on Ice.
Okay, that didn’t happen but it could have.
The beer waste is true though. And the love. It was awesome.
… I meet the Internet. Muwahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!
*Puts on evil scientist gloves*
Seriously though, I’m really excited to meet Wwwesty, Tackie_Jackie, Joe_Smith_Really, Untressor, Love_Shunt, Hecademical, Getyourowncoffee and others and to see GilesMarie, Batshelter and Jwynia again at #TCFU.
I just realized Faulkner’s run on sentences were stream of consciousness brilliance, while mine just look sloppy.
